Pre War

William Sinkfield was born in Little Heath on 19 Aug 1893 (bap 8 Oct 1894), to Henry Sinkfield, a gardener, and Elizabeth Ann (nee Slow), they were living at Little Heath North Mimms.


On the 1901 census the family of parents, and William were living at Idmiston Square, Malden, Kingston, Surrey. On the 1911 Census the family were living at 2a, Oak Park Garage Mews, Hampstead, William was a clerk.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for William. He was probably enlisted in early 1916 in the London regiment as private 4152 in one of its many Battalions.


He was transferred to Kings Royal Rifle Corps as Rifleman 5172 and became 200118 when he was posted to 17th (Service) Battalion (British Empire League). At sometime William was wounded and gained a wound stripe.


William was reported to have died from wounds on 19 Mar 1917 during a period of no major engagements but attrition from trench Warfare continued.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 10s and arrears of £10 18s 1d was paid to his mother.
