Son of Clara (nee FIELDS) DUCE of Watford, and the late David DUCE.
His parents married 20 October 1866 at Great Shelford, Cambs. David died 21 October 1902 in Watford aged 57, and was buried 25 October in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Clara died 2 January 1932 in Watford aged 86, and was buried 7 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Joseph was born 8 January 1881 in Bradford, Yorks, and attended Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 5 March to 30 May 1894. He resided in Watford.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1881 Census, aged 3 months he lived in Bradford, with his parents and seven siblings. On the 1891 Census, aged 9 he lived in Manningham, Yorks, with his mother and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, a fish fryer aged 19, he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, in the fish trade aged 30, he still lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and two siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was presumed killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Joseph’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
Recorded as in the Royal West Sussex Regiment in the Borough Roll of Honour.
