Pre War

Son of William James and Caroline Sarah (nee WIGGINS) SIMMONDS; husband of Florence Mabel (formerly SIMMONDS, nee TRUST) PARNELL of Ascot, Berks

His parents married 1879 in the Southampton district.  William died 1921 in Watford aged 60, and was buried 22 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Catherine died 1921 in Watford aged 61, and was buried 27 May, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Thomas was born 19 December 1891 in Watford or Bushey Heath, Herts, and baptised 24 December 1893 at St Peter’s, Bushey Heath.  He attended first Red Lion Yard Infants’ School, Watford; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 16 January 1899 to 27 January 1905.  He married, probably, 22 June 1915 at Holy Trinity, Clapham, London; they had one child.   He resided in Thornton Heath, Surrey.  Florence remarried 1919 in the Chertsey, Surrey, district to Frank PARNELL.

On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a manservant aged 19, he lived in Portland Place, London W.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Lambeth, London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Thomas’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

There is a Death announcement for Thomas in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 6 January 1917; and an article in the St Michael’s Parish Magazi
