Son of Joseph and Hannah Maria (nee TEBBATT) SIMKIN of Hallaton, Leics; husband of Sarah Alice (nee COLEMAN) SIMKIN.
His parents married 1871 in the Uppingham, Rutland, district. Hannah died 1915 in the Uppingham district aged 64; Joseph died 17 February 1932 in King’s Norton, Leics, aged 86.
Alfred was born 1887 in Hallaton, and married 23 June 1916 at St John the Baptist, Glooston, Leics. Sarah possibly remarried 1923 in the Doncaster, Yorks, district to William KEMPIN, and if so died 1966 in the Blackpool, Lancs, district aged 78.
On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Hallaton, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 14 he still lived in Hallaton, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a painter aged 23, he was a boarder in Kibworth, Leics.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private 6306 Essex Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Alfred’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
