Born in 1896 in Rye Park, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire son of Alfred and Mary Ann Chittenden and living in St Anne’s, Tottenham in 1901 and at 8 Crane Mead Road, Ware in 1911. He was a domestic house and pony boy.

Enlisted at Hertford, formerly 7370, Bedfordshire Regiment and was killed in action.
