Pre War

Born in Stratfield, Mortimer, Berkshire, 3rd June 1887, son of Charles and Sarah (Carbine) Sibley. Married Emma Sale on 7 Aug 1915 in High Cross, Herts. Lived in Wadesmill, Ware, Herts. In 1901 he was living in Mortimer with parents Charles and Sarah, and his father was working as a bricklayer and John as a "domestic boy". John Sibley is said to have enlisted at Aldershot, probably around 1905 and was a regular soldier. His address is given as Wadesmill in Military records In 1911 he was living in Barracks at Ras-el-Tin in Egypt, recorded to have been a butcher. He is recorded on a gravestone in the churchyard at High Cross along with Rebecca Sale and Esau Sale, who both appear in the 1911 census as living in Wadesmill. Esau is a domestic gardener. In 1915 John had married Emma Sale at Wadesmill, and was an acting Lance Corporal at the time, so these are his in laws.
