Son of John Shillingford & Sarah Elizabeth (nee Sadler) of ‘Parkfield’ Beech Hill, Hadley Wood.
In 1901 the Census records Stanley as living at Parkfield, Beech Hill, Hadley Wood. With parents and siblings.
Between 1902 -1922he attended Bishop's Stortford College and by 1911 he was living at Parkfield, Beech Hill, Hadley Wood. With parents and siblings. Occupation, Grocer's assistant working in family business, Harvey and Shillingford Grocers and Tea Merchants of Upper Street, Islington
Wartime Service
On 8 Sep 1914 he enlisted Honourable Artillery Company, No further details other than the initial on the roll. He then appears as a Corporal service number 79 in the Royal Engineers and was in France from 8 Apr 1915.
He was released from the RE on 11 Sep 1915 to be Gazetted Temporary Second Lieutenant on 12 Sep 1915 and moved to the 2nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers. On 11 Dec 1917 he was Mentioned in Despatches whilst still with the Royal Fusiliers.
Between 13 Jan - 24 Jan 1917 he was in hospital at Queen Alexander's Military Hospital, Millbank with Jaundice.
He the went on attachment to the RFC, no date given. After 1 Apr 1918 with the birth of the RAF he became a Second Lieutenant in the RAF.
After being posted missing in action, it was decided that he had been killed in action on 16 Jun 1918, whilst flying a Royal Aircraft Factory RE8 reconnaissance aircraft No. B6656.
