Son of Frank Arthur and Jessie (nee BENNELL) CHAPLIN of Watford.
His parents married 2 December 1893 at St Martin’s, Kentish Town, London. Frank died 13 July 1929 in Watford aged 59, and was buried 17 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery; Jessie died 7 January 1953 in Watford aged 82, and was buried 12 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Frank was born 4 January 1897 in Harlesden, Middx, and baptised 28 March 1897 at St Michael’s, Willesden, Middx. He attended Alexandra School, Watford, from 11 January 1904 to 13 January 1911. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a printer’s assistant aged 14, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and eight siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Wealdstone, Middx, and was formerly Private 1584 9th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, and Private 8173 14th Battalion London Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died at Field Ambulance, Palestine, of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Frank’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. Service number appears as 513931 in some records.
