Wilfred Cecil was born in Little Amwell in 1892 (baptised 22 Apr 1892) the son of William Chandler, a baker, and Clara (nee Taylor). Cecil’s Father died in 1893 and his mother Clara married Henry Brace, a grocer, in late 1893.
On the 1901 Census Cecil was living with his mother Clara, brother Harold, Stepfather Henry Brace and stepbrother Henry C Brace and stepsister Clara M Brace at the Street, Little Amwell. On the 19111 Census Cecil, working as a clerk at Haileybury College, and the whole family were still living at the street, Little Amwell.
Wartime Service
Cecil enlisted on 19 Feb 1910 as Private 1399 in 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment, a Territorial Regiment. Cecil was 18 years and 11 months old and he was a clerk at Haileybury College.
He volunteered to serve overseas and left with his Battalion for France landing on 6 Nov 1914. The Battalion were attached 4th (Guards) Brigade in 2nd Division and were at Ypres in the winter of 1914/15 and took part in action at Cuinchy and on 18 May 1915 were in support of the attacking Guards companies. It was during that Cecil was killed. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial.

War Gratuity of £4 and arrears of £7 14s 6d was paid to his widow.
