Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 25 Jan 1896 in Hornsey, Middlesex son of Frederick and Florence Sheffield of Finsbury Park, London. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1905-11, he became an engineer with Vickers.

Wartime Service

Enlisted formerly M2/055065 Private, Army Service Corps as a motorcyclist and entered France on 28 Mar 1915 serving with Indian Contingent and then with the 38th (Welsh) Division. He then obtained a commission in the Royal Flying Corps on 8 Apr 1916 as an balloon observer and joined the 7th Kite Balloon Section. He was killed during a parachute descent when his parachute failed to open.
