Son of William and Elizabeth (nee SEABROOK) CHALK.
His parents married 25 December 1877 at St Pancras Old Church, London. Elizabeth died 1946 in the Hemel Hempstead, Herts, district aged 93.
Arthur was born 1886 in Watford, and baptised 2 January 1887 at St Mary’s, Watford. He resided in Watford, and was employed by Messrs Camp, Ellis & Kelly.
On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his parents and no siblings. On the 1901 Census, a scholar aged 14, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a law clerk aged 24, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and no siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Kingsway, London; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died at sea.
Additional Information
There is an article about and a Death announcement for Arthur in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 8 June 1918; plus an In Memoriam in the issue dated 17 May 1919.
Unfortunately, Arthur’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
