Born in Bishops Stortford on the 11th October 1893, Bernard was the sin of the Right Rev. Edward Domett Shaw, Lord Bishop of Buckingham, D.D. and his wife Agnes, daughter of Alfred Gilbey of Wooburn Park.
He was educated at Marlborough College (Foundation Scholar) and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was gazetted to Second Lieutenant on 3rd September 1913 and promoted to full Lieutenant ion 6th May. While at Marlborough he was in the cricket 11 (1911), scoring 94 against Rugby at Lords. At Sandhurst he was the captain of both the hoicket and criket elevens.
Wartime Service
Bernard went to France on 4th November 1914 and was killed in action on 19th December.
His commanding officer wrote: "Your boy died most gallantly, fighting in the German trench, which had been taken during the night."
Additional Information
His younger Brother Lieu A G Shaw was killed in naction on 24th December 1915 and his eldest brother, Lieu E A Shaw, of the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, fell in October 1916. His other brother R G Shae was a Midshipman in the Royal Navy and survived the war.
