Born in 1880 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of Francis and Elizabeth M. Castle. He married Emily Easter Chapman in 1904 in Ware and they lived at 39 Amwell End, Ware and then at 21 West Street, Ware with three children. He was a house painter.
Wartime Service
Enlisted at Hertford in 1914 and entered training at Bury St Edmunds.
The battalion embarked on the “City of Chester” and sailed for France on 6 Nov 1914 and was staying in No 2 Camp in Le Havre on the way to Ypres. On the next day he suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the head and died. He was the Hertfordshires first death in WW1 in France.
