Pre War
Born on 28 May 1877 in Llanlidoes, Montgomeryshire son of Henry Clifton and Mary Carver. He married Rose Caroline Wilson and they lived at Wynches, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire. He later lived at Chilstone, Sandy Lane, Wallington, Surrrey. He was a cotton merchant in Alexandria, Egypt from 1899-1915 and spoke French, Arabic and Italian.
Wartime Service
Formerly Lieutenant Army Service Corps he was attached to R.F.C. He joined No. 14 Squadron in Cairo on 26 Jun 1915 and was graded Qualified Observer on 15 Mar 1916. He returned to England and relinquished his commission on account of ill health on 8 Sep 1916, but acted as Instructor in Air Observations thereafter at Gosport Flying School and was reinstated 2nd Lieutenant on 1 Apr 1918. Died in Dollis Hill Auxiliary Hospital, Gladstone Park, Brondesbury, N London after an air accident.
