Charles Carter was born in Bishop's Stortford in 1890 to Eliza and Frederick Bull.


On the 1911 Census he was living with his family at 3 Barrells Down, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and working as a general labourer in the building trade.

Wartime Service

He originally enlisted into the Hertfordshire Regiment under reg. No. 5747, and later transferred to the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was killed during the Battle of the Somme.

Additional Information

His mother received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £2 7s 11d.
