Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 30 Jan 1890 in Farnborough, Hampshire son of James and Elizabeth Carswell. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1900-07 and London University. He became a teacher of mathematics at Maidenhead College. He married May Lillias Inglis (later Mrs Sweeney) of "Rose Lawn," College Avenue, Maidenhead on 10 Oct 1915 in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Wartime Service

He enlisted as Private 19th Royal Fusiliers and obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant Royal Berkshire Regiment in Feb 1915 and was appointed Musketry Officer to the training camp. He entered France on 27 Jul 1917 and was killed only eight weeks later while on patrol duty.
