Haileybury College Cloister Wall Memorial, Hertford Heath

Pre War

Born on 22 Nov 1879 in Ragley Hall, Alcester, Warwickshire son of Hugh de Grey Seymour, 6th Marquess of Hertford and Lady Mary (Hood) Seymour. Educated at Haileybury College 1894. He married Elfrida Adelaide de Trafford of The Cottage, Upper Wick, Worcester, England and he lived at Erindale, Ontario, Canada as a farmer. On the outbreak of the South African war he was living in Canada and joined Strathcona’s Horse with whom he fought in South Africa. He was badly wounded and returned to Canada after the war.

Wartime Service

At the start of the war, he returned to England and obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was dismissed the service on 10 Jun 1916 but re-enlisted as a trooper in The Canadian Cavalry. He died of gunshot wounds to the head at 48th Casualty Clearing Station at Manancourt.
