Frederick (aka Fred) Charles Sewell was born on 2 December 1894, in Chipperfield, Hertfordshire, son of William Thomas Sewell, a Coachman and Ellen Clara (nee Cuthbert) Sewell.
He was Christened on 3 March 1895, at Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, Westminster, London/Middlesex.
On 23 January 1899, aged 4, Fred started school at St Matthews National School, Paddington.
1901 Census records Fred aged 6, living with his parents, and brother Arthur 9, at 4 Fosbury Mews, Inverness Terrace, Paddington, London/Middlesex.
1911 Census sees the family back in Chipperfield, Fred is aged 16, and working as a Gardener, living at home with his parents, and brother Arthur 19, in, Tower Hill, Chipperfield, Herts. His father is still employed as a Coachman.
In March 1914, Fred, and his friend Frederick George Climpson, emigrated to Canada, sailing from Liverpool, on 5th March 1914, aboard the SS Alaunia, for Boston, Massachusetts, USA, arriving on 15 March 1914.
Wartime Service
At the outbreak of war Fred was living in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, working as a Gardener. He enlisted on 20 September 1914, aged 19, joining the 1st Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment, with the service number 6608. The Battalion sailed for England aboard the SS Lauretic, from Quebec City on 3 October 1914, arriving Plymouth, England on 14 October 1914.
Fred was wounded in action and died of his wounds on 2 May 1915, at the 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, Pas de Calais, France.
