George Burton Seward was born in 1894. His Father, member of the Stock Exchange, was John Seward and his mother Alice Inez Seward.


Wartime Service

He served as a Private with Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and on 6th Nov 1917 was killed in action, although he may have been originally recorded as Missing. His father may have enquired of the Red Cross if George might be a Prisoner of War but their reply was negative.

Additional Information

George’s elder brother, John Ravenscroft Seward also served as a Private with 28th Bn. London Regt. He went to the BEF on 29 Dec 1914 and after gaining a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Rifle Brigade. He became a Civil Engineer in 1923, and died in 1966.
