Son of William and Jeanette (nee DOGGETT) CARPENTER; husband of Edith (nee RIXON) CARPENTER.
His parents married 7 April 1787 at St Mary’s, Watford.
Harry was born 6 January 1885 in Watford, and baptised 30 January 1885 at St Mary’s, Watford. He attended Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 13 February 1893 to 8 September 1897. He married 8 June 1908 at St Matthew’s, Oxhey, Herts; they had four children. He resided in Watford. Edith never remarried, and died 1966 in the Watford district aged 82.
On the 1891 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, a firewood dealer aged 16, he still lived in Watford, with two siblings. On the 1911 Census, a green-grocer aged 26, he lived in Bushey, Herts, with his wife and two children.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
There are articles about Harry in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 23 September 1916 and 28 July 1917, and a Death announcement in the latter; plus In Memoriams in the issues dated 13 July 1918 and 12 July 1919.
Unfortunately, Harry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
