Pre War
Born on 17th November 1890, in Bengal, India, to Parents Sir Herbert William Cameron Carnduff of the Indian Civil Service and Lady Julia Carnduff (nee Mcleod), he had one brother Lt. Herbert Julian.
In 1901 he was attending Bengeo School, Danesbury, Bengeo, Hertford, aged 10, he later went on to Rugby School. The 1911 census shows Kenneth, aged 20, a 2nd Lieutenant, stationed in the barracks of the Royal Engineers at Brompton & St Mary’s, Brompton, Chatham.
He was promoted to Lieutenant on 21st December 1912.
Wartime Service
The 2nd Field Squadron Royal Engineers, was part of 8th Division, and were sent to France in November 1914. It remained on the Western Front for the duration of the war. They fought at Neuve Chappelle and Aubers Ridge in 1915, and on the Somme.
He was promoted to Captain sometime before he died of wounds on 11th January 1916.
Probate records show that he was residing at 7, Beuleh-hill, Upper Norwood, Surrey.
Additional Information
His headstone inscription "PASSED OUT OF THE SIGHT OF MEN BY THE PATH OF DUTY" was ordered by his mother, Lady Carnduff, of The Grey House, Meads, Eastbourne. Brother Herbert Julian joined the Royal Navy in 1905 as a midshipman and served through WW1 rising to Lieutenant (RN) having been involved in the evacuations at Suvla and Helles. He died in 1922 from accidental Drowning while aboard HMS Valiant.
