Pre War

Born 1878 in Bearstead, Kent son of Alfred and Emma (Foster) Sedge. He was one of 10 Children.. The 1881 census shows Harry aged 3 living with his Parents 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters in Yalding Village, Yalding, Maidstone, Kent and the 1891 census shows Harry aged 13 living with his Parents, 6 Brothers and Sister, at Elveys Cottages, Yalding, Maidstone, Kent. 1901 Census shows Harry aged 22 living at 8 Bryanston Square, St Marylebone, London. He was in service as a Footman Domestic. He married Sarah Cason in 1904 and had one daughter, Florence Lillian Sedge. 1911 census shows Harry aged 33 Married to Sarah with a daughter aged 6 years, Florence Lillian. Living at 37 Wellesley Buildings, Euston Square, London. He is still in service as a Butler Domestic.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Bayford, initially as Private 7368 Harry Sedge in the Bedfordshire Regiment. Then transferred to the 1st Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment as Private 19636 Harry Sedge. He was Killed in Action on the 6th December 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Additional Information

His personal inscription on the headstone reads: “Son of the late Mr & Mrs Alfred Sedge; Husband of Mrs Sarah Norton (formally Sedge) of Tower Road, Essendon, Hatfield, Herts”.

Sarah remarried Albert Norton in 1923 and lived at Tower Road with him. This
