Pre War

George Draper was born in 1881 in Berkhamsted, the son of William and Elizabeth (Betsy) Draper and one of three children. He was baptised on 25 January 1883 at Great Berkhamsted. 


On the 1881 Census the family were living at Mill Street, Berkhamsted, where his father was working as a labourer. They had moved to Castle Street, Berkhamsted in 1891 remained there in 1901. His father died and In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother at 35 Castle Street, Berkhamsted at which time George was working as a milkman. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford and served with the 20th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery.


He died of wounds on 28 April 1917, aged 38 and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France. 

Additional Information

His brother Arthur Draper was granted administration of his estate on 7 September 1917 with effects of £147 5s 8d. He also received a war gratuity of £3. Pay owing of £5 12s 2d was divided equally between brothers Arthur and Walter.
