John Scott was born in 1883, in Kings Langley, Herts, son of Samuel Scott and Ellen Scott, (nee Dwyer). The eldest of five children, Samuel (B 1887), Nellie (B 1891), Harry (B 1894), and May (B 1896).
He was baptised on 28 October 1883, in the Parish Church, Kings Langley, Herts.
1891 Census records John aged 7, at school, living with his parents and three siblings in, Waterside, Kings Langley.
1901 Census records John aged 17, working as a Machine Minder at the local Paper Mill, living with his parents, and five siblings in Church Lane, Kings Langley.
1911 Census records John, aged 26, single, and in the Army serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery, stationed in Burma and the Andaman Islands.
Wartime Service
It is believed John was still serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery on the outbreak of War. He served in Asia and on the Western Front with the RGA.
He died on 21 April 1917, of wounds received in action and is buried in the CWGC Tilloy British Cemetery in France. Grave Ref; IV. A. 21.
Additional Information
His father Samuel was awarded a dependent pension of 3/6 a week from 18 December 1917. The value of his effects was £4-0s-6d, Pay Owing and £15-10s-0d War Gratuity which also went to his father Samuel.
