Pre War
Born in 1891 in Ware, Hertfordshire son of Arthur Edward and Ellen Cakebread and was living in Bourne Hill, Ware in 1901. He was living with his parents in 14 Vicarage Road, Ware in 1911 and was a shop assistant.
He was living with his sister Emily Bennet at 89 Star Street, Ware in 1915 when he enlisted.
Wartime Service
Enlisted at Hertford on 14 Oct 1915 formerly Private 5618, Hertfordshire Regiment. He embarked at Folkestone on 5 Jul 1916 arriving at Boulogne and was transferred to “A” Coy., Welsh Fusiliers on 2 Jul 1917.
He was granted two weeks leave in UK on 20 Sep 1917 and attended a signalling course in Oct 1917. He was killed in action on the Somme in August 1918.

Brother of Private Ernest J. Cakebread who died of his wounds on 8 Oct 1916 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
