Pre War
Albert John Saville was born in Flamstead End, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, on 2nd December 1898, son of Walter Saville a, Horticultural labourer and Agnes Saville (nee Prior). One of seven children although two died in infancy.
Albert was baptised on 19th February 1899, in the Parish of Cheshunt, Herts.
1901 Census records Albert aged 2, living with his parents, and two brothers Harry (5) and Charles (4) in, Cromwell Road, Flamstead End, Cheshunt, Herts. His uncle Arthur Saville (29) was living with the family.
1911 Census, Albert (12) is at school, living with his parents, brothers Harry(15), Charles (14), and sisters Edith (9) and Florence (2) at 1 Oliver Cottages, Longfield Lane, Flamstead End, Cheshunt, Herts.
Wartime Service
Albert enlisted at Edmonton, Middx, on 14th January 1916. Joining the Royal Field Artillery at Woolwich, London, on 17th January 1916, issued with the service number 122548. On completion of his training, he left Woolwich Barracks on 13th September 1916, for Devonport, Sailing the same day for Mesopotamia.
Albert was discharged on 27th February 1919, re-enlisting on the 28th February 1919, for 2 Years Short Service. It is believed he was serving in Salonika around this time, returning to the UK on 3rd May 1919. Albert was taken ill and died at 10-30am on the 20th November 1919, aged 20, at Shorncliffe Military Hospital in Kent, of Bronco-Pneumonia. He was buried on 26th November 1919, at Cheshunt Burial Ground, Bury Green Road, Cheshunt, Herts.
Additional Information
His mother Agnes received his effects of £50-11s-1d. His father ordered his headstone inscription while living at 14 Andrews Lane, Cheshunt, Herts., it reads "WE TRUST IN CHRIST TO MEET AGAIN THY WILL BE DONE".
