William James Bush (known as James) was born in 1886 in Farnham, Essex (Bishop's Stortford registration district) to James & Charlotte Bush.
On the 1901 Census he was living with his family at Hazel End, Farnham, Essex. On the 1911 Census he was listed as a Private in the Bedfordshire Regiment in Barracks.
Wartime Service
As a serving soldier it is likely he would have been one of the first to be sent to France, arriving on 16 August 1914 and would have seen action in many major battles including the Battle of Mons, 2nd Battle of Ypres and the Battle of the Somme.
He was killed in action on 8 October 1917.

A war gratuity of £21 10s was granted to his father as well as pay owing of £20 12s 8d.
