Pre War
Edward Hanson Sale was born in Atherstone, Warwickshire. He was the third son of Alfred Sale (Solictor) and Gertrude (nee Cheshire). Educated at Aldenham School.
By 1911 he described his occupation as Insurance Clerk and was living with his brother Richard in Pimlico, London.
Wartime Service
Obtained a commission as second Lieutenant in 10th (Service) Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment dated 24 Oct 1914.
The battalion joined the Expeditionary Force on 8 Aug 1915. He was serving as Captain when he was killed in action on 25 Sep 15. This was the first day of the Battle of Loos in which the Gloucester Regiment took a leading role and suffered a high casualty rate.
He is commemorated along with others who fell the same day from his regiment in St Mary’s Advanced Dressing Station Cemetery.
