Robert Saban was born in 1900 in Bishop's Stortford, the son of Henry and Alice Eliza Saban and baptised on 28 January 1900 at Holy Trinity Church, Bishop's Stortford.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at 6 Bartholomew Road, Bishop's Stortford but they had moved to 3 Thorley Terrace, South Mill, Bishop's Stortford by 1911, where his father was a coach painter and coach builder. Before joining the Army, Robert was in the employment of Mr S Edwards, a Miller in Bishop's Stortford. His home address was 8 Thorley Terrace, Twyford Road, Bishop's Stortford, Herts.
Wartime Service
Robert joined the Army in October 1918 initially with the Training Reserve, later transferring to the Labour Corps.
He died at Fovant Camp Military Hospital, Salisbury Plain, on May 28th 1919, as the result of a mosquito bite.
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £5 as well as pay owing. Brother to William Alfred Saban who died in 1918 and is also named on the Bishop's Stortford memorial. Pension records show the two brothers recorded on the same card and their mother received a combined pension for both her sons of 11 shillings a week.
