Pre War
Aubrey John RUTTER was born in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, in 1887, son of John Rutter a Coachman and Ann Maria Rutter (nee Phillips). One of six children.
1891 Census records Aubrey aged 3, living with his parents, sisters Lilian (5) and Verena (1) at 18 Elvaston Mews, Kensington, London.
1901 Census, Aubrey (13), his mother, three sister and two brothers are now living at Broxbournebury, Broxbourne, Herts. On the night of the Census his father John was working away from home.
Aubrey joined the Great Easter Railway, Company, (GERC) as a Clerk at Broxbourne, in August 1902, later working at various locations.
1911 Census Aubrey (23), is recorded as a Booking Clerk with the GERC, boarding with James and Hannah Vanderfield, at 137 Shelbourne Road, Tottenham, Middx. His parents, brothers Lionel (17) and Stanley (12), are now living at 2 Meadow Road, Loughton, Essex, His father is recorded as a Disabled Coachman.
Aubrey married Agnes Formby of Waltham Abbey, Essex, the daughter of James Formby at The Abbey Church of the Holy Cross and St Lawrence, Waltham Abbey, Essex, on 1st March 1913. They went on to have a Daughter Irene Agnes Rutter born in 1913.
Wartime Service
Aubrey enlisted at Tottenham, Middx, on 7th June 1915, for the duration of the war, on completion of his training he embarked for France on 14th November 1915, arriving the following day the 15th. Seeing action on the Western front he was Killed in Action on 19th April 1918, aged 30.
He is buried in Meteren Military Cemetery in France. Grave Ref: IV. K. 865.

Agnes received his effects of £9-06s-01d, pay owing and his war gratuity of £13-10s-00d.
