Donald Henry was born in 1895 the only son of Henry Parkinson Burgess, a sheep grazier, and Elizabeth (nee Morris). Donald’s birth was registered in Merthyr Tydfil District (variously described in other documents as Abercombie, Aberdare in Wales and Copchon, Scotland).
Census: 1901 Census living at 3 Canon's Cottages, Little Stanmore with parents and 1911 Census living at 2 Spring Villas, Little Stanmore with parents and nieces. (His father was now a cattle Dealer).
At the time of death his home address was reported as The Lodge, Beech Hill Park, Camlet Way, Hadley Wood, where his parents were living. His parents later lived at Wellhouse Farm, Barnet.
Wartime Service
Donald enlisted in Barnet as Private 13226 in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) and was posted to 9th (Service) Battalion as no Service Record could be found there is no record of his deployment to France.
In 1916 the 12 (Eastern ) Division including the 9th Royal Fusiliers were engaged in the Battle of Pozieres on the Somme. Donald was reported Killed in Acton on 4 Aug 1916.
His remains were not recovered and He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
