Pre War

Frank Bull was born on 18 Mar 1887 (Baptised 25 Jul 1892 in Albury) in Sandon, Herts in 1887 to William Bull (Police Constable) and Elizabeth (nee Bayford).


On the 1891 Census the family of Parents, Mary E (born 1875), Ernest J (born 18780, Florence E (born 1880), Lillian M (born 1882) Frederick (born 1884), Annie (born 1885), Frank and Ada S (born 1890) were living at Roe Green, Sandon. Royston.


On the 1901 Census now living at Back Row, Bishops Stortford, the family now consisted of parents, Elizabeth, Florence, Frederick. 


On the 1911 Census Frank, working as a decorator, was living with his family of parents, Lillian, at 41 Oak Street, Bishop's Stortford, Herts and. His father died in 1913 and his mother in 1916.

Wartime Service

Frank enlisted at Hertford on 2 Dec 1915 and placed on Army Reserve until Mobilisation on 10 Aug 1916 when he posted as Gunner 11523 Royal Garrison Artillery to No 1 Depot RGA. He was posted to 46 Company on 25 Aug 1916 and to 225 Siege Battery on 26 Aug 1916. Frank and 225 Siege Battery went to France on 11 Jan 1917 when he left from Southampton and arrived at Le Havre the following day. 

Frank was wounded during the Battles of the Scarpe as part of the Arras Offensive in May 1917, he was taken to and died of the wounds at the 27th Casualty Clearing Station on 2 May 1917. 

Additional Information

Wwar Gratuity of £3 and his pay owing of £4 19s 8d was split between his brothers and sisters.
