Pre War

Federick John Charles was born in Northfleet, Gravesend, Kent in 1891 to Frederick John Burden and Eleanor (nee Lindsall),
On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Frederick and Beatrice (born 1898) were living at St Margarets Road, Northfleet, Gravesend.
On the 1911 census Frederick was a footman and living with his parents and sister in Upton Road (today Coopers Road), Little Heath., Potters Bar

Wartime Service

No Service record was found for Frederick. Frederick volunteered for the Buffs (East Kent) Regiment at Westminster while resident in Little Heath, possibly in Sep 1914 as Private G/3261. He was posted to 8th (Service) Battalion (which was formed from men volunteering in Sept 1914. He went to France with his Battalion as part of 24 Division landed in France, 31 Aug 1915.  The Division was rushed to the Loos Battlefield by forced Marches but positioned too far back to be used as reserves on the opening day 25 Sep 1915 but were sent into action on the next (26 Sep) and sustained over 400 casualties for little gain. Frederick was wounded some time during the Battle of Loos (25 Sep - 8 Oct 1915) and died from his wounds on 9 Nov 1915 at No.4 General Hospital, Versailles.

War Gratuity of £4 10s and arrears was paid to his sister Beatrice.
