David Ross was born in 1898 in Whithorn, Kirkinner, Wigtownshire, the son of David and Janet Ross and one of ten children.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at Forrest Moor Gamekeeper House, Kirkinner, where his father was working as a Game Keeper. By 1911 they had moved to 57 Rye End, Welwyn, Herts where his father was working as a Game Keeper.
At some point he emigrated to Canada.
His father later lived at Peggieshill Farm, Ayr, Scotland.
Wartime Service
David enlisted into the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on 1 February 1916 at St Thomas, Ontario, Canada, joining the 151st Overseas Battalion.
He was killed in action on 10 April 1917 during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France.
