Pre War

Son of Alfred Herbert TERRY of Watford and the late Eliza (nee SMITH) TERRY.

His parents married 1890 in the Aylesbury district.  Eliza died 1912 at Buckland Wharf, Bucks, aged 49, and was buried 4 April at All Saints, Buckland; Alfred died 1949 in Watford aged 82, and was buried 19 May in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.

Albert was born 14 March 1896 in Wigginton, Herts, and baptised 8 July 1898 at St Mary’s, Northchurch, Herts.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Northchurch, with his parents and five siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a farm labourer aged 15, he lived at Buckland Wharf near Tring, Herts, with his parents and six siblings.

Officially recorded as born in Wigginton and was living in Watford when he enlisted in Aylesbury, Bucks.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Aylesbury, Bucks; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 14 August 1914, and was killed in action.

Additional Information

There are articles about Albert in the Bucks Herald dated 11 December 1915 and 15 January 1916. His brother Edward died 22 November 1915 and also features on this Roll of Honour. Unfortunately, Albert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
