Born on 7 Apr 1894 in Great Dunmow, Essex son of Montague and Margaret Dowell Tench. Educated at Haileybury College 1907-12.

Wartime Service

Joined University and Public Schools Corps in Sep 1914. Served in France from Nov 1915 to Mar 1916 as Sergeant "B" Coy. 19th Bn. Royal Fusiliers. Obtained a commission in the Essex Regiment and was killed in action at the Somme.
