Pre War

Herbert Henry Rogers was born on 20 November 1884 in Bishop's Stortford to Henry and Gertrude Rogers and baptised on 25 January 1885 at St Michael's, Bishop's Stortford. On the 1911 Census he was living with his family at 5 South Street, Bishop's Stortford and working as a Railway Clerk. He married Daisy Lydia Cockes in late 1911 in Bishop's Stortford. They had a child, Richard Herbert, who was born in 1913 and they lived at 25 Portland Road, Bishop's Stortford.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London and initially served under Reg. No. 05561, Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He was in France from 8 December 1915. He was reported missing, believed killed, on the last day of flanking operations on the Hindenburg Line, during the Battle of Arras.

Additional Information

His widow Daisy received a war gratuity of £9 10s and pay owing of £11 14s 1d.. In addition she received a pension of 18s 9d payable from 11 February 1918. She was also granted probate in London on 5 November 1918 with effects of £176 11s
