Pre War
Arthur Thomas Rogers was born on 3 June 1889 in Coolgardie, the son of Edward and Mary Rogers of 46 Ward Street, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
He gave his occupation as soldier at the outbreak of war.
Wartime Service
He enlisted on 16 August 1915 as a Lieutenant in 32nd Battalion, D Company. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A2 Geelong on 18 November 1915 (or possibly HMAT A13 Katuna on 24 November 1915). He was promoted to Captain on 29 January 1917 and was awarded the Military Cross for his actions on 27-29 August 1918.
'During the operations near Fontaine-les-Cappy, on 27th-29th August, 1918, he led his company with great gallantry and skill, and protected the flank of the battalion, advancing well ahead of the line, through an intricate system of trenches and wire, and capturing the ruined village of Fay. When held up by machine gun fire he made a skilful reconnaissance to the front, and obtained information which enabled him, after dark, to advance and force back the enemy. His fine leadership inspired his men with great confidence.'
