Pre War

Francis John Brimicombe was born in Newton Abbot on 17 Jul 1891 (baptised 28 Aug 1891, Wolborough, Newton Abbot), to John Heath Brimicombe, railway porter, and Mary Anne (nee Oates).

On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Martin (born 1881, teacher), Mabel (born 1883, dressmaker), Edith (born 1886, teacher), Arthur (born 1889, errand boy), Francis, and Walter (born 1895) were living at 123, Wolborough, Newton Abbot. Father was a railway signalman.

On the 1911 Census the family of parents, Arthur (plumber), Francis (print compositor) and Walter (railway porter) were living at 52, Hilton Road, Newton Abbot.

Francis married Helen Martha Skinner in 1914 in Hitchin District. They lived at Cranbrook Road, Norton, Letchworth.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Francis who enlisted in the Bedfordshire Regiment as Private 13848 soon after the Great War began. He went to France following his training on 4 Jan 1915 to join 1st Battalion, who had beeen in France since Aug 1914 and were part of 15th Brigade, 5 Division. The Division was in the Ypres Salient and Francis was wounded probably during trench duty. He died of his wounds on 9 Mar 1915 and is buried in Ramparts Cemetery, Ypres.
