Born on 19 Jun 1875 in Rochdale, Lancashire son of Charles Edward and Sarah Blanche (Edelsten) Brierley of Mount Auldyn, Ramsey, Isle of Man. Educated at Haileybury College 1889-94 and became an architect. Joined the Old Rochdale Volunteer Bn. in 1899 and was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to the 4th Lancashires on 5 May 1900, Lieutenant 15 Jun 1901. Served with the West African Force 1904-07. Promoted to Captain in the 2nd Bn. on 14 Jun 1910. He married Olive Cicely Mabel Robinson of Foxcote Grange, Andoversford, Glouscestershire on 10 Oct 1911 and had two children.

Wartime Service

He joined 1st Bn. in Jun 1915 and was promoted to Major. He entered France with the British Expeditionary Force in 1914 and was wounded on 2 Jan 1915. After recuperation in England he returned to duty. He was then posted with 1st Bn. to the Dardanelles on 29 Jun 1915 and was mortally wounded on 22 Aug. He was returned to England but died of his wounds in the Empire Hospital, Vincent Square, London.
