Pre War

Son of George and Alice (nee LOWE) BRIDGE.

His parents married 4 August 1894 at St Martin’s, Worcester.  Alice died 1939 in the Watford district aged 64.

William was born 11 October 1896 in Malvern, Worc.

On the 1901 Census, aged 4 he lived in Rodborough, Glos, with his parents and one sibling.  On the 1911 Census, aged 14 he lived in Great Malvern, with his parents and two siblings.

Wartime Service

He originally enlisted 21 January 1910 as Boy 2nd Class, extended for a period of 12 years 11 October 1914: a porter aged 18, 5’3¾” tall.  He joined E.47 1 July 1917, and was engaged in North Sea patrols off the German and Dutch coasts.  E.47 was lost in the North Sea, there were no survivors.  His mother of Watford was notified.
