It has not been possible to find details from census or birth registration but CWGC states that he was living in Cuffley, Herts.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hertford and his regimental number of 4226 suggests he joined the Hertfordshire Regiment in December 1914. Following training he served in France from 17 August 1915 and is likely to have fought in the Battle of Loos in late September.
Arthur died of wounds on 4 June 1916, probably at the 33rd Casualty Clearing Station which was in Bethune at the time. He is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery, France.
Additional Information
His father Charles received a war gratuity of £6 and pay owing of £6 13s 6d. No pension records have been found.
