Reginald Doughty (known as Reggie) was born on 19 March 1895 in Arkley, Shenley, Hertfordshire, the son of John and Fanny Doughty. He was baptised on 5 May 1901 at St Peter's Arkley, along with his two brothers, Frederick and Horace.
Reggie and his brothers attended the Church of England Infant School at St Peter's in Arkley. Reggie and Horace later transferred to the National School in Barnet.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at 1 South Cottage, Arkley where his father was working as a labourer on a road They remained in Arkley (in the civil parish of Shenley) in 1911, at which time Reggie was working as a glass washer at a photographic works [Wellington & Ward, photographic material manufacturers in Boreham Wood]. He was recorded as a resident of Arkley when he enlisted in Hampstead.
His parents later lived at Rose Cottage, Arkley, Barnet, Herts.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hampsted and joined the Army Service Corps.
Reggie served in Egypt and died of malaria on 11 October 1918. He is buried in the Ramleh Cemetery, Israel.
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £9 10s and pay owing of £19 8s 11d. His mother received a pension of 12 shillings a week in respect of Reggie and his brother Horace who was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
The photograph shows the two Doughty brothers, it seems most likely that Reggie is sitting.
