Robert William Brazier was born on 29 July 1893 in Bishop’s Stortford to Arthur Robert and Elizabeth Brazier and baptised at St Michael's Bishop’s Stortford on 29 October 1893.


On the 1911 Census (listed as William) he was living with his family at Market Square, Bishop’s Stortford, and working as a plumber's assistant.

Wartime Service

He initially served as Lance Corporal in the Hertfordshire Regiment under Reg. No. 2498, then transferred to the 8th Gloucestershire Regiment, but was demoted to Private.


He served in France from 6 November 1914 and was killed towards the end of the Battle of the Somme on 18 November 1916.

His father Arthur received a war gratuity of £10 and pay owing of £7 19s 11d
