Pre War

Son of Jesse Milford and Phoebe Jane (nee NORWOOD) BRANDON.

His parents married 28 November 1891 at All Saints, Leavesden, Herts.  Phoebe died 1933 in Watford aged 60, and was buried 13 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Milford died 1953 in St Alban’s, Herts, aged 87, and was buried 30 March, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

George was born 13 September 1892 in Watford, and baptised 21 October 1892 at St Mary’s, Watford.  He attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 9 January 1899 to 1 June 1905.

On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings.  On the 1911 Census, of no occupation aged 18, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and eight siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 13 August 1914, and was killed in action.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, George’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

His brother Arthur died 19 April 1916 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
