Son of Jessie Louisa (nee UPSON) BRANDON of Watford, and the late Charles Leonard BRANDON.
His parents married 10 November 1894 at St Mary’s, Watford. Charles died 1936 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 23 May in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Jessie 1939 in Watford aged 69, and was buried 10 August, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Bernard was born 1898 in Watford, and baptised 3 April 1898 at St Lawrence’s, Abbot’s Langley, Herts. He attended Victoria Junior School, Watford; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 1 September to 15 October 1908 and again from 8 March to 13 October 1911.
On the 1901 Census, aged 3 he lived in Abbot’s Langley, with his mother and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, aged 14 he lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford 27 January 1914 a golf caddie; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 16 August 1914, and was killed in action at the Battle of the Aisne.

Unfortunately, Bernard’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There are articles about Bernard in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 17 October 1914, and the St Michael’s Parish Magazine dated November 1914.
