Pre War

George Cyril was born on 25 April 1894, the son of George Bozier, a horseman on a farm, and his wife Alice Bozier (nee Swain). The family were living at Kinsborne Green, Harpenden.

Wartime Service

George joined the Bedfordshire Regiment as Private 18779 and went France on 2 Oct 1915. His medal card states 2nd Battalion so he was probably drafted as a replacement.


He was killed in action with 1st Battalion on 27 Sep 1918 during an attack on the Village of Beaucamps during the Battle of the Canal du Nord. He was among the other rank casualties of 20 Killed, 96 wounded and 20 missing. His body was not recovered and he is remembered on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.

Additional Information

War Gratuity and arrears of £23 2s 3d was paid to his mother Alice.
