Son of Free and Ellen (nee DEAN) RIDGLEY; husband of Carrie CHANDLER (formerly RIDGLEY, nee SEABROOK) of Watford.
His parents married 26 November 1870 at Little Middenden, Bucks, district. Free died 1912 aged 73; Ellen died 1912 aged 65; both in the Wycombe district.
George was born 1886 in High Wycombe, Bucks, and married 19 May 1913 at St Mary’s, Harrow, Middx; they had one child. He resided in Kingsbury, Middx. Carrie remarried 1920 in the Watford district to John CHANDLER, and died 1959 in the Hailsham, Sussex, district aged 72.
On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 6 he lived in Hughenden, Bucks, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1901 Census, a farm labourer aged 17, he lived in Widmere End, Bucks, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a farm labourer aged 25, he still lived in Widmere End, with his parents and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hounslow, Middx, was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 12 September 1914, and was presumed killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, George’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
The name is spelt RIDGLEY on all sources
