He was born in St Stephens, St Albans, Hertfordshire and lived on Chiswell Green, St Stephens, St Albans, Hertfordshire (1891 and 1901) and the fifth cottage away from The Plough PH at Tyttenhanger Green, Hertfordshire in 1911. The 1901 census records that William’s mother, Ann Reynolds was a widow and that he had a sister, Emily and a brother, Walter.
By 1911 William had been married for four years to Rose Reynolds and that they had two children, William George (2) and Lillian Doris (6 months). His records a working as a domestic gardener in 1901 and a platelayer for Midland Railway in 1911.
