Albert Raymond Bolton-Wood was the son of Alexander and Caroline May Bolton-Wood of 232 Falcon Street, North Sydney, New South Wales. 


His parents later lived at "Montine", Gerard Street, Neutral Bay, Sydney.

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 13 October 1914 as Lieutenant with the 18th battalion, 1st Reinforcement. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on 12 May 1915.


He was promoted to Captain and transferred to the 20th Btn, Australian Infantry. 


He was awarded the Military Cross  'For conspicuous gallantry during operations. During a fierce bomb fight in the trenches he took his bombing platoon to reinforce another battalion. After relieving their bombers he fought with the greatest gallantry, even after he was wounded. He was largely responsible for the repulse of the enemy's attack.'

Brother: 2108 Pte Robert Alec BOLTON-WOOD, 13th Bn, killed in action, 29 August 1916. His mother, Mrs C M Bolton-Wood of "Montine", Gerard St, Newtral Bay, Sydney, Australia, ordered his headstone inscription: “HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE”
